Release Date: TBA
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 by Polish studio CD Projekt RED. In the game formerly known by the codename Project Orion, we once again move to a dystopian future overrun by megacorporations, trying to survive and become an urban legend. Cyberpunk 2 should offer similar mechanics to the first game and a brand new city to explore (in addition to Night City).
Cyberpunk 2 (formerly Project Orion) is the temporary name of the RPG from the Polish studio CD Projekt RED. The game is a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 released in 2020. It is set in a futuristic, dystopian world based on the "paper" role-playing game by Mike Pondsmith.
In 2025, Cyberpunk 2 has only just entered the The Witcher 4 hits the market, which takes precedence over the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt RED studio focuses on one big project at a time).
Although very little information has been revealed about Cyberpunk 2 so far, we can assume that the gameplay will expand on the mechanics introduced in Cyberpunk 2077. This means we will once again be dealing with an RPG featuring a skill-based combat system and an open world, filled with main and side quests, as well as NPCs leading virtual lives in a big city.
Implants will likely play a big role in the game again. They are the pillar of the Cyberpunk world and can be installed by so-called ripperdocs. They increase the character's abilities, giving super strength, the ability to slow down time, or blades mounted on the hands. The game should be characterized by freedom in of available tactics, allowing to confront enemies in open combat, use firearms and melee weapons, hack opponents' implants, sneak past them or negotiate with independent characters to ensure safe age.
The action of Cyberpunk takes place in a dystopian future. The world of the game is dominated by mega-corporations waging wars among themselves for profit and influence. The ultra-capitalist system engulfing the entire Earth keeps the majority of the population in extreme poverty and leads to violence on the city streets, costing the lives of many citizens. Widespread cybernetic implants are slowly leading to cyberpsychosis, massacres, and deaths at the hands of law enforcement. Players take on the roles of the titular cyberpunks, representatives of various professions living outside the system, trying to take control of their slice of brutal dystopia and become an urban legend.
Mike Pondsmith revealed that Cyberpunk 2 will offer a new, yet undisclosed city (a metropolis based on Chicago is a likely candidate). He also assured that Night City, the arena of events from Cyberpunk 2077, "is still there".
