In recent years, digital game distribution has been increasingly replacing physical releases. However, this type of solution has many opponents. ers of physical game versions are mainly unhappy about the inability to resell digital copies after purchase.
- Research results from the Ultra digital distribution platform conducted on a group of 2,000 PC s from the United States and Great Britain indicate that 58% of them would sell some of their games in a digital version if possible.
- This approach is likely due to the fact that 75% of respondents believe that AAA titles are just too expensive. For this reason, only 36% of all digital games are purchased at full price.
- Interestingly, this approach would undergo a significant change if players were allowed to trade used titles. If the players had the opportunity to resell their game, as many as 64% of respondents would decide to buy it at full price.
- Research also indicates that a significant amount - 24% - of the games assigned to respondents' s were never launched by them. Only 44% of the titles from their collection are played on a regular basis.
- Discounts and promotions play a significant part in influencing the purchasing decision for 87% of the respondents, as stated in the report.
- Independent games are very popular among the respondents. 75% of respondents buy indie games because they appreciate their creative nature (40%) and want to try something new (39%).
- It's worth noting that despite the high cost of games, 68% of respondents decided to buy extra content in the title they were playing. However, only 26% of surveyed players are interested in purchasing limited editions or unique items in the game.
