CD Projekt explained why there is no Yennefer and Ciri in The Witcher 1 and 2. „It would be a waste”
Yennefer and Ciri are very important characters for Geralt's story, but they were missing from the first two installments of the game. CD Projekt RED explained why this happened.

The video material prepared by our friends from the surprise caused by the huge success of the game.
The video also touched on another theme that is worth highlighting. One of the creators revealed why the key characters for Geralt's story - Yennefer and Ciri - only appeared in the third installment of the series.
"That would be a waste"
In the case of the first Witcher, it's important to note that initially, the game wasn't supposed to feature Geralt at all. However, when the White Wolf finally became the main character, there wasn't enough space to introduce Ciri and Yennefer properly.
As Marcin Blacha itted, the story was about something completely different, and adding both characters to it would have wasted their potential. Therefore, CD Projekt RED decided to wait for a better moment.
It would appear that a good opportunity will come during the development of the second installment of the game, which was originally designed with Geralt as the main character in mind. However, this didn't happen - Ciri and Yennefer were once again omitted in Assassins of Kings for the same reason as in the first part.
The story in the second installment of The Witcher was also about something completely different, introducing Yennefer or Ciri would also be a waste.
On the other hand, when starting work on The Wild Hunt, the devs knew from the beginning that they wanted to include Ciri in the game. Therefore, there was also a place for Yennefer.
We gave them the recognition they deserved and made room for them to shine as great characters.
