How do worms work in Dune Awakening and how to avoid them? Here's how to save your loot
Are you afraid of worms in Dune Awakening? You should be. Here you will find some tips on how to deal with them and protect your backpack's content.

Desert is a mysterious place. On one hand it is just a vast area covered with sand, rocks and sparce vegetation, on the other it’s a place brimming with life. As one famous mathematician once said, “Life finds a way” and it’s no different when it comes to this landform. This might have inspired Frank Herbert to create “Dune”, a book where action focuses on a desert planet of Arrakis. Obviously, without natural precipitation it is hard to imagine life in any form, yet Herbert didn’t make it a place of scorched sun earth. Among plants like saguaro, burro bush and date palms, we can also notice kit foxes, desert hawks, kangaroo mice… and, of course, huge sandworms. Those creatures are iconic for the universe and they are also present in the latest game inspired by this author’s vision – Dune Awakening. Thanks to this game being presented from the third-person perspective, it makes all encounters more personal, and hence the worms scarier than ever, especially that death in this title results in losing your loot. What can you do in order to avoid your demise in the gigantic mouths of sandworms? Let’s try to analyse their behaviour.
How to avoid worms in Dune Awakening
Worms are probably one of the most recognizable elements of Frank Herbert’s universe. Those overgrown annelid-like creatures can quickly relieve you from your hard-earned equipment in Dune Awakening. Sometimes it is inevitable to cross their path, especially when you venture into Deep Desert for endgame items like flour sand that you’ve found due to an unexpected encounter with a sandworm, you might want to be interested in several tips on how to avoid them.
- It is probably obvious, yet don’t venture through worms’ territory without a vehicle. Without it, you are basically dead in the sand. Having one with a boost is a must.
- Observe the desert surface. If you notice sand shifts, you see worm breaches or detect vibrations, reconsider your path. It’s better to stay safe and go around to your destination than being eaten alive.
- Clad yourself in Softstep Boots, which reduce the worm threat. You will be able to craft them at a General Fabricator or a Garment Fabricator. To get them, you will need some iron ingots, plasteel microflora fiber, plant fiber and spice-infused iron dust.
- Do not use your shields in the worm-infested area. This device acts as a lure for those critters once used.
- If you find yourself in a pinch, you can consider using well timed knee charge skill to avoid smaller worms’ maws.
Surviving on a desert created by Funcom is hard not only due to the sandworms roaming the world. Sometimes, you might have issues with ing the game altogether, due to “Marathon fiasco.
