Release Date: October 17, 2006
Another installment in the popular multiplayer FPS game series, developed since 2002 by Digital Illusions and EA. Following the historical themes and the fictional conflict from Battlefield 2, this time the game takes place in the future—in the year 2142, to be exact, after a devastating nuclear disaster, which resulted in a new ice age.
Battlefield 2142 is another installment of the popular series of tactical action games from Digital Illusions, which includes Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, and numerous extensions. This time, the owners of PCs go to futuristic battlefields of the 22th century located on Earth which had previously been touched with a tragic natural disaster (practically the entire planet was covered with ice, except for the equatorial areas). Two powerful factions composed of united survivors of the cataclysm face each other in battle for the living land. These are combined forces of the Americans and Europeans versus coalition Russians, Arabs, and Indians.
Of course, each of the sides of the conflict has unique weapons reminiscent of science fiction films. There are lots of cutting-edge types of weaponry in the game, such as Morretti SR4 sniper rifle or Shuko K-80 machine gun. Generally speaking, the implemented poppers, however, operate on the basis of classical ammunition. We do not see any energy bullets like in Star Wars, though there are, for example, electromagnetic grenades available (invaluable while fighting machines). In addition, we see a variety of vehicles, flying objects (not just manned, but also remote controlled), and even two-legged robots with a height of six meters, controlled by pilots sitting in their interiors.
Soldiers are divided into four main classes, namely scouting, , strike team, and vehicle-destruction specialists. Up to 64 people can compete in a single battle scenario. The game is powered by the improved engine previously used in Battlefield 2.
