Microsoft Flight Simulator X is a new edition of the most popular flying simulators developed for PC. The fans of the series had to wait over two years, as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight was released in 2003. The developers optimized the program to work best under a computer with Windows XP operating system, however those owning a 64 bit version of Windows Vista had access to new effects and visual options.
The new edition is mainly characteristic for its improved visuals and audio effects. The graphics are integrated with DirectX 10, showcasing new features such as spectacular weather effects and more detailed models. When it comes to sound effects, the game s 5.1 channel surround sound, a feature which should be appreciated by every enthusiast of aviation.
We are free to travel around the virtual version of Earth, with 28 detailed cities and over 24 thousand recreated airfields from all around the world. It should be mentioned that the popular World Aeronautical Database (www.worldaerodata.com) contains two times less entries. The players can assume control of numerous air machines, from airliners (including Boeing 787 or Airbus A321), through stunt planes and helicopters, up to hydroplanes (e.g. Grumman G-21 Goose).
The game contains a mission system that gradually exposes us to the art of piloting, offering various rewards such as hidden features or new airplanes. The system is somewhat similar to the one found in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight.

Simulation
The fourth add-on to Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002/2004 – two entries in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series. Traditionally, the dev team at Simdesign have developed this game. As was the case with the previous expansion, in Tatra Photo Scenery the devs made the flights over Poland in the game much more interesting by introducing detailed landscape maps. As one might surmise from the title, Tatra Photo Scenery offers the ability to marvel at the Tatra mountains, i.e. the highest peaks of Poland and Slovakia, from within a plane. The area rendered in the game encomes around 3 thousand square kilometers. A detailed landscape of the Tatras could have been generated thanks to satellite pictures. Thanks to advanced technology, including the ERDAS Imagine system, the developers were able to render detailed topographical features such as summits, es and ridges.

Simulation
One of Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons developed by Simdesign. VFR Poland 3D Landmarks adds the land objects that are used as reference in VFR (Visual Flight Rules) navigation over the area of Poland. The developers used real flight plans, mapped in accordance with AIP POLAND ENR 5.4 Amendment No 060, which enabled them to recreate some of the characteristic land objects, including tall buildings and objects such as skyscrapers, masts, chimneys, or fuel tanks. In all, the add-on introduces 366 land objects, generated using GMAX, a rendering package with additional post-production effects including advanced lighting. The add-on also contains a set of special effects and animations that create more believable weather conditions that can be encountered on Polish skies. VFR Poland 3D Landmarks is fully compatible with other expansions dedicated to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
