This condition lasted until the Great Catastrophe, which caused the monsters to suddenly disappear. Only stones are left of them, emitting huge amounts of energy, allowing their civilization to survive. The balance of the world, which has been kept in check so far, has been drastically upset. Seeking an imminent threat, an organisation is set up to deepen the knowledge of these stones and protect their strength. Within its framework there are ranks of elite warriors (titled Jewel Summoners), who use the mysterious energy of rock monsters and exploit it in combat.

Among them were Shinji Hosoe, who created music for the Ridge Racer series, and Hitoshi Sakimoto, known for his extremely melodic songs from Final Fantasy XII.
