Mechanics

The game revolves around exploration, fighting enemies and collecting items. Players traverse the area while leading a group of fearless Pikmin at their services. They come in several different colors, each color meaning different abilities. The fourth installment features returning Red, Blue and Yellow Pikmin, as well as the new Ice Pikmin, used to freeze enemies and the environment. There are also other types, such as the hardy Rock Pikmin, the poisonous White Pikmin and the heavy Purple Pikmin.

The player can only lead a limited number of Pikmin at once. It is up to them how they'll use their abilities and numbers. Pikmin can be used to overcome and remove obstacles and fight enemies, but they can very easily perish in combat.

The game introduces a new playable character - a dog companion Oatchi. Thanks to his size and strength, he can break heavy objets and be very helpful when crossing water.

Technical aspects

Pikmin 4 features 3D visuals, mixing realistic in-game locations with stylized, goofy alien designs. The game also features character customization, letting us choose our character's body type, skin color, eye shape and other features. The soundtrack is charming and atmospheric.
