Singleplayer

A logic-adventure game inspired by Papers, Please. In That's Not My Neighbor we can play as a porter working in an apartment complex. Our main tasks include ing people's identities and making sure they're not dangerous doppelgangers. We have a rather unusual choice list - letting them in, denying them entry or sentencing them to die.

That's Not My Neighbor is a production on the border of logic and adventure games, reminiscent of titles such as Papers, Please. This project was backed by Ignacio Alvarado, an independent developer from Costa Rica, who goes by the pseudonym Nacho Sama.

The first version of the game was released in February 2024 on the itch.io platform, but over time the priority for the developer became the version intended for Steam.

Gameplay

In That's Not My Neighbor we watch the events from a first-person perspective (FPP).

Porter's duties

During the game, we play the role of a porter working in an apartment complex, who sits motionlessly, dealing with people entering the building. Our task is to make sure that we are dealing with our neighbors or their guests, so as not to let one of the dangerous impostors into the apartment building.

Identification of doppelgangers

The game provides us with a range of tools that allow for the verification of the identities of people showing up. In some cases, signs indicating that something is wrong can be noticed without external help - simply by observing a person through a safety window. In addition to this, we can check their documents, the apartment numbers they are going to, and also call their owners to check if they are indeed expecting guests.

Decisions and consequences

It's worth putting effort into our duties, because by letting in a doppelganger, we risk not only him infiltrating the building, but also our own lives. On the other hand, by making the wrong decision, we can condemn an innocent person to death.
