Total War: Shogun 2 Expansion Pack
Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai
Release Date: March 23, 2012
A standalone expansion for Total War: SHOGUN 2 strategy game and a part of the Total War series by Creative Assembly. The add-on offers a new campaign set in the Empire of Japan in times of the civil war between the Emperor’s ers and the last shogunate. The player can side with either faction, each of which is represented by six families.
Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Samurai Twilight focuses on the conflict between the emperor's followers and the last siogunate. The new campaign, based on events related to the Boshin civil war period, begins in 1864 and its creators predicted the end of the campaign in 1870. This is a time of clash between the traditional siogun culture and a modern army using firearms. The player's task is to bring Japan into the era of modernity. The creators provided the opportunity to play 4 completely new historical battles, based on the dramatic clashes from the civil war Boshin.
We have at our disposal 6 new playable families. Three of them (Aizu, Nagaoka, Jozai) are ers of the last siogunate and the other half (Choshu, Satsuma, Tosa) s the Emperor. The next three factions (Saga, Obama and Saga) are intended as DLC additions. Foreign superpowers also play a significant role during the civil war. Relations with the Americans, British and French have a direct impact on the ability to recruit individuals and the potential for technological development.
The campaign map has been extended northwards to include the new island of Ezo (today's Hokkaido) and for the first time in the Total War series presents the railway network. Players can build their own rail transport traction in order to move armies and agents between regions. Interestingly, railway lines can be sabotaged and enemy transports blocked by taking control of part of the lines or stations. There were also added 39 land units and 10 floating units (steam warships and foreign battleships). There were also new agents. To the duo ninja (here as Shinobi) and Geisha they ed: An overseas veteran (specialist in modern warfare), Ishin Shishi (Processing Party) and Shinshengumi (representing the shogunatu clan factions). Both of the latter are reminiscent of Metsuke - a known from the basic version of the game counter-espion and propagandist. Of course, all five have a special skill tree. In addition, the activity of each agent was divided into a diversionary and a pro-government division.
Another innovation that was introduced in Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Twilight of Samurai is the siege of the port. The creators have implemented new ways of interaction between sea and land units. During land battleships, armies have the opportunity to benefit from the of ships (artillery fire), and shore cannons can fire on the surrounding harbour surface vessels. However, from the strategic map position, our fleet will be able to shoot at the opponent's coastline. But the real novelty of Samurai Twilight is the emergence of modern firearms on the battlefields of Japan, including Gatling's carders and Armstrong's and Parrot's cannons - all with the possibility of firing at the enemy line from the first person's perspective. In a similar way we will be able to use the on-board artillery of our fleet. In the Twilight of Samurai, unfortunately, factories and commercial fleets were abandoned.
The multiplayer mode has also been updated. A new map of conquest has been introduced, reflecting the 19th century historical background. We received a completely new Samurai Twilight avatar, containing more than 40 representatives of the entourage, 30 elements of armour and a 19th century tree of skills.
