The remake of FPS from 2003 under the same title, developed by PlayMagic studio and Microids. In XIII we play the amnesiac hero who was accused of murdering the US President. This is an adaptation of a Belgian comic book, published by Dargaud in 1984.
XIII is a remake of a FPS game published in 2003 bearing the same title. The game was released by Microids and was created by the PlayMagic studio, a team of developers who previously worked on such series as Operation Flashpoint.
The plot of the game is based on the French comic book series by Jean Van Hamme. Players get to meet the main character when he wakes up on a seaside beach. The protagonist, who bears the titular XII tattoo on his shoulder, suffers from amnesia. His main task is to discover the truth about his identity. However, it is complicated by the fact that he is quickly being trampled on by mercenaries and secret agents, as he has identified the sniper behind the assassination of the President of the United States.
In XIII the action is shown from the first person perspective (FPP). The game is divided into thirty-four missions, which take place at a bank, an FBI office building, across skyscraper roofs, and even a military base located in the middle of mountain peaks. During the game, players carry out various tasks and eliminate enemies, making use of an extensive arsenal of firearms (such as guns, rifles, and rocket launchers) and melee weapons (such as throwing knives). There are also stages where one has to somplete stalthily, sneaking behind enemies' backs and killing them by surprise.
Like the original, XIII stands out from other games of this type due to onomatopoeia accompanying some events; for example, over an opponent falling from high altitude there is the inscription "AAAA...", and over an explosion - "BOOMM". The authors of the remake have refreshed the audiovisual layer and modernized the gameplay mechanics, making sure that they meet modern standards while maintaining the spirit of the original.
