How to get the Axe in Blue Prince
To get the Axe you will have to unlock the Armory. How to do that? First, you have to light all 4 blue flames outside of the mansion. The valves allowing for that are at the outside locations:
- Gamestone Cavern (mine)
- Apple Orchard
- After unlocking West Gate, pick Schoolhouse and Hovel as rooms outside the mansion.
It will unlock the elevator to the Underground Precipice. There you will be able to find the Chess puzzle. If you manage to solve it, there is a reward waiting for you. If you choose Knight as your prize, you will unlock Armory.
How to solve Chess puzzle in Blue Prince
Solving the Chess puzzle is not an easy task. In most cases, puzzles in Blue Prince are the same for all players. Not this time. Why is that so?
There are chess pieces hidden in some rooms. The chess board is the plan of a house. As you might have guessed by these hints, you have to put pieces on the proper fields, corresponding to the rooms with pieces in your own mansion. And as we know it, the plan changes every day.
Of course, each piece can appear only in specific rooms.
- Pawn – it is the most common piece, you can find it for example in: Bedrooms, Den, Dining Room, Dormitory, Drawing Room, Freezer, Parlor, Lost and Found, Secret age, Solarium, Storeroom or Walk-in Closet
- Bishop – Attic, Bookshop, Chapel
- King – Office, Throne Room.
- Knight – Observatory, Security Room, Treasure Trove
- Rook – Clock Tower, Conservatory, Nook, Vault
- Queen – Her Ladyship's Chambers, Study
If you put your piece in a good position, the field will light up.

Some people are puzzled how to use the Axe at all. First of all, you should that Axe has a limited number of usages – 3. After 3 rooms are axed, you will no longer be able to use this item in your playthrough. It means that you have to make it count, right?
To actually use this item, open Mount Holly Directory and pick a room. You will find an axe icon in the right bottom corner of the screen. Where to use the Axe in Blue Prince, though?
- Attic – without a doubt it is one of the most useful rooms, as it contains 8 different items.
- ageway – while it is not the most common room to axe by players, it is definitely very useful. A free room open in all directions can prove to be extremely powerful in any run.
- Trophy – with this room for free, you are quite good when it comes to gems.
Honorary mentions: some people tend to axe the Classroom, but its usefulness is restricted to getting the trophy. The similar situation is with Throne Room, as it is connected to the puzzle.
However, at the end, pick the room you need the most. Keep in mind, though, that you have only 3 uses.
