PC players have something that console players might envy, and that's definitely the extensive modding scene. Some console games already offer for fan projects, and another big title should them later this year.

The Witcher 3 with mods on consoles

The day before yesterday, the CD Projekt group shared a financial report for the first quarter of 2025. We found out about the Cyberpunk 2 - previously known as Project Orion - has entered the pre-production phase. While reviewing the group's report, however, we can come across another very interesting mention.

On 19 May, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt celebrated its 10th birthday. To mark the occasion, CD PROJEKT RED announced that players can look forward to a series of events, special partnerships and surprises. The studio also announced that a new update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released later this year, in which, thanks to a partnership with mod.io, mods popular with gamers will also be available on new generation consoles.

This is how we got confirmation that console players will be able to install mods for The Witcher 3 through the mod.io platform later this year. Considering that the official REDkit tools were released last year, this is a great time to add this type of feature.

It's interesting because in the report, they used the phrase "announced" in the past tense, even though it never actually happened. There is a possibility that the project was canceled, and the company simply forgot to remove this mention from the report. However, CD Projekt could just as well have delayed the announcement, which appeared in the document due to someone's oversight.

Let's hope the second option is closer to the truth, and we'll get an official announcement about the new update soon.
