Elden Ring Nightreign takes a page out of Sekiro's book: solo mode patch arrives next week
Playing Elden Ring Nightreign solo is not recommended. Thankfully, FromSoftware recognizes this and is introducing a Sekiro-inspired patch next week.

Today, FromSoftware announced that they will introduce a patch next week to improve comparison to many of its previous titles. Many Steam s complain about the lack of many expected multiplayer features, such as the ability to play with just two people, an in-game voice chat, and cross-platform play. Despite these complaints, Nightreign still managed to reach over three hundred thousand concurrent players in the first hour after its release on Steam. That could improve over the weekend, and maybe next week, once this patch arrives, it will encourage more solo players to take on the Nightlord.
Elden Ring Nightreign steals a page out of Sekiro’s book to improve solo play
The official Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, where the iconic mechanic was a second chance. Seriously, though, this should be very helpful for solo expeditions. Usually, in a group of three, when a player goes down, they can be revived by the other players. Without other players, solo mode turned into an all-or-nothing challenge. The patch will also increase the amount of runes gained, which will give solo players more opportunities to level up and access more useful items.
While there are still issues that players would like to resolve, such as cross-play and a two-player mode, fans appreciate how quickly FromSoftware is introducing these changes. One responded, saying, “Excellent additions! Thank you for being so quick to responding to !” If this is any indication of how much the team is listening to and preparing to introduce changes, it could be a promising sign of more significant improvements in the future. The team has already apologized for the lack of a two-player mode, so it could be something that’s already planned for a future patch.
The same Elden Ring social media also shared that Nightreign has reached a major milestone: two million players have become Nightfarers. Since Nightreign is not on any subscription services like Game or PS Plus, this implies that it must have sold two million copies on its first day, but for whatever reason, FromSoftware did not choose to phrase it that clearly.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a fascinating new direction for FromSoftware, a developer that made a name for itself with challenging single-player games. With a few more changes, Nightreign could turn into the game that many fans are asking for. But at this point, it doesn’t feel like it will be competing for Game of the Year once again. Now that this FromSoftware multiplayer experience is here, I will be personally curious to see how it informs their other title, Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive multiplayer game.
